Okay so here is a story about giving a citation to someone.
At 4:30am I was parked on Antelope Dr. running radar. It wasn't more then a few minutes of being there that I locked a vehicle on my radar going 56 in a 40 zone. After the vehicle passed me, I flipped on it and tried to catch up. I had to get up to 75-80 to catch up. As he got to the intersection of 1700 S. 1000 W. he made a left hand turn. He did this by running the red light! I then activated my emergency lights to pull him over. The suspect then pulled his car into the parking lot of 7-11.
As I walked up to the white passenger vehicle I asked the driver for his drivers license and registration. While he did this he told me that he worked for Salt Lake City airport. He then gave me his license. I asked him if he knew why I had stopped him he replied by saying "was it because of the red light?" I told him not only that but he was going 56 in a 40 zone. I asked him why was he in such a hurry and all he told me was that it was a "busy day". I thought to myself that it's 4:30 in the frickin mourning how busy could he be? I then went back to my vehicle. While filling out the citation I thought to myself that he had the attitude of "why the heck are you pulling ME over!" If he hadn't run the red light, and wasn't going as fast and given me such attitude then I probably would've let him off with a warning. He didn't say much when I gave him the ticket. Instead of writing him for 16mph over I wrote him for 10. I also gave him a verbal warning for the red light. I thought I was giving him a good deal!
The next day I got a phone call from my Lt. asking me about the incident. Apparently he had called in and wanted to complain about me. The driver asked where my professional courtesy was. I explained to my Lt. of the exact details. I love my Lt. because he agreed with what I did, he also told me that he was going to call the person and tell him that the professional courtesy went out the window after he did what he did and he was lucky that he didn't get the full citation.
I don't know should I have done this or let him off? Please tell me your thoughts.

I'd have given him a ticket too. He's just an airport cop, that's one step above a security guard. It's not like he could ever return the favor, unless you get caught pulling a Senator Craig in the airport bathroom and want a free pass. But considering you're a CowPoke fan you might need that free pass. If he was another city cop, I would've let him slide. If he was a trooper I would have written him for the full ticket, then broke his tail light and written him for that too. After a day or two of thinking about it I might have tore up the ticket, but since he called and complained I say he deserved it. Good on ya. Dang cops think they can get away with anything.
That's crazy! I hate when people use positions of authority to get away with whatever they want. I think you did the right thing! Now, if you happen to catch me speeding in Syracuse, will you let me go with a warning? I promise I'll be respectful to you. :)
