Bad Cop

Okay so here is a story about giving a citation to someone.

At 4:30am I was parked on Antelope Dr. running radar. It wasn't more then a few minutes of being there that I locked a vehicle on my radar going 56 in a 40 zone. After the vehicle passed me, I flipped on it and tried to catch up. I had to get up to 75-80 to catch up. As he got to the intersection of 1700 S. 1000 W. he made a left hand turn. He did this by running the red light! I then activated my emergency lights to pull him over. The suspect then pulled his car into the parking lot of 7-11.

As I walked up to the white passenger vehicle I asked the driver for his drivers license and registration. While he did this he told me that he worked for Salt Lake City airport. He then gave me his license. I asked him if he knew why I had stopped him he replied by saying "was it because of the red light?" I told him not only that but he was going 56 in a 40 zone. I asked him why was he in such a hurry and all he told me was that it was a "busy day". I thought to myself that it's 4:30 in the frickin mourning how busy could he be? I then went back to my vehicle. While filling out the citation I thought to myself that he had the attitude of "why the heck are you pulling ME over!" If he hadn't run the red light, and wasn't going as fast and given me such attitude then I probably would've let him off with a warning. He didn't say much when I gave him the ticket. Instead of writing him for 16mph over I wrote him for 10. I also gave him a verbal warning for the red light. I thought I was giving him a good deal!

The next day I got a phone call from my Lt. asking me about the incident. Apparently he had called in and wanted to complain about me. The driver asked where my professional courtesy was. I explained to my Lt. of the exact details. I love my Lt. because he agreed with what I did, he also told me that he was going to call the person and tell him that the professional courtesy went out the window after he did what he did and he was lucky that he didn't get the full citation.

I don't know should I have done this or let him off? Please tell me your thoughts.

Training in Denver

Wow, it's been a while since I blogged. So much has happened these last couple of weeks. Two weeks ago I had the chance to go to Denver for a drug training class. It was designed to help us reconize and know what the symptoms of certain drugs are. It was a great class, we had some awsome instructors. I also got to meet some cool people in the class, now I can say I have officially met a "CSI" officer. The one bad thing about the training was that I was bored when we weren't in class! The one good thing was that I got to do everything I wanted to do.

We went straight from the airport to Invesco Field at Mile High. What a beautiful stadium that was. When we arrived they were not doing any tours so we decided to walk around. Thankfully we saw a security guard who let us in to see the field (yes I pulled the "I am a cop bit"). After that we continued to walk around until we saw the huge Broncos helmet. Because my Sgt. and Lt. are huge fans, I thought it would be funny to get a pic of me pretending to pee on the helmet. Needless to say I won't be showing that pic to them until my vacation request is processed.

Well my graveyard shift is now over and I'm tired. Tomorrow I will blog about my experience of pulling over another cop and issuing a citation to him.

Heaven on earth!

I know that this comes as a shocker that my first post is about my dear Cowboys. I have now gone to two home games at Texas Stadium. In this picture I am doing the T.O pose, in the other picture I am paying my respects to the "Star" by kissing it. The first time I went with my brother-in-law and other close Cowboy fans. If any of you are going to your first game I would suggest that you do it with a "bunch of guys". This way you can act like crazy football fans and not worry about your wife telling you to grow up. The second time I went was with Ashlee and Emma. She still let me be crazy but not too bad. I had a great time with them too.
